HI guys, friend of mine msg me today he spotted a Black FD for sale at Affordable Motors, Main North Road Prospect, it's either a S7 or S8, with mag wheels and front lips, he said it's looking very nice, I posted it here just in case anyone is looking for an FD in Black, and that's all I know about the car... cheers.

mm... no trade, the RX8 has something that FD doesn't, but I'll eventually have both! also depends on if they stuff up the next gen RX7.

yeah i saw this one ket. its a 2000 s8. they want $31999. the interiors certainly not my thing and the guage faces have been changed to some graphic ones (some sort of design) which leaves the discussion of the kilometres being genuine. im not saying theyre not genuine, its just with the dash being pulled apart to put the new faces in theres a chance the whole cluster was replaced but thats just me. also has a rotor symbol in the boot area.
theres also a black 2002 s8 at aa family motors next to the drive in main north road. i took it for a drive on saturday afternoon. very impressive to drive but worth 36,999 in my opinion not a chance in hell. not sure if floor bracing is standard but had a floor brace from side to side near the back of the gearbox and a square floor brace near the rear cradle, was red and looked like the bracing hpi did a story on in the evo. another thing was there was a fair bit of damage on the inside of the door jam (actual dents) from where the seat belts have been closed in the door, but when i sussed it, there was no problem with the belt not retracting and it had a belt holder on the side of the seat so a harness being fitted at some stage crossed my mind. low 52,000 km though.
theres also a black s8 at sinergy on north east road as well for 31,000 but this is all good and well untill you look on carsales australia wide and see us in south aust are easy paying 6000 on average more than vic qld and syd for their fds. their cars more often than not have lower km and are all dealers so they would come with a warranty (how much that is of a benefit who knows)
at the prices for fd's i would actually be happy as larry with owning, im very quickly finding i think they're out of my price range. 25000 is the cheapest i have seen that i would snap up which is complied but no rego so rego stamp duty transfers etc it very quickly becomes more expensive. i wont say how much i have to spend but when any colour you want with 45-55km on them, from the photos (i realise photos can lie!) look excellent interstate at 26-27000 im sure not going to pay 27 for one with 75,000km on it in average condition.
also for all those fd owners that are pissed thinking im taking a dig at the price of them, i by no means think they are over priced. for anyone who has driven them knows they are something else. the fd i drove would out handle my fc anyday of the week and i had 2000 worth of suspension and bushing mods. theyre also fast as hell out the box.
im just going to keep my eyes interstate for a while but due to now sharing a car to get around in, i cant hold off much longer so importing one myself is out of the question. i might have to look at something else and will have to live the dream another time, but we'll see

Sounds like AutoExe bracing, definately not stock. Indicates to me the car has been drifted or raced, or at the very least driven very hard.. Would be very wary of the car.
Did you get them to put the car up on a hoist? How did you see the bracing?
another thing was there was a fair bit of damage on the inside of the door jam (actual dents) from where the seat belts have been closed in the door, but when i sussed it, there was no problem with the belt not retracting and it had a belt holder on the side of the seat so a harness being fitted at some stage crossed my mind. low 52,000 km though.
Wouldn't worry too much if it was actually the belt. My belts sit right between the door and the seat, but they do retract correctly as they should, that's just where they sit :) I have to hook it over the seat when i shut the door which is a minor annoyance but not a big deal.
Also don't forget the seat belts would have been changed when the car was complianced for the road here, so those should be brand new belts as well.
theres also a black s8 at sinergy on north east road as well for 31,000 but this is all good and well untill you look on carsales australia wide and see us in south aust are easy paying 6000 on average more than vic qld and syd for their fds. their cars more often than not have lower km and are all dealers so they would come with a warranty (how much that is of a benefit who knows)
Well, that's what they're TRYING to sell them for, but my bet is they're not able to - the black one at Sinergy is a perfect example as it's been there for nearly 12 months.
With regards to the warrenty, it is a benefit to have - but given the nature of the car I would suspect that any claim for warrenty will very likely be denied because they would assume the car was being thrashed.
I went down this exact path myself, looking locally and interstate online and ended up buying interstate, for mostly the same reasons. Most cars are the same, I guess it's harder to sell cars in Melbourne. Besides, it's a fun drive coming home from Melbourne in a new car especially if it's an FD :)
at the prices for fd's i would actually be happy as larry with owning, im very quickly finding i think they're out of my price range.
Sounds about par for the course. Especially with a Series 8, as the interiors on those were made to a lower price. Don't forget that prices are often negotiable of course :)
If you buy from interstate the car needs to be stock as you will be up for a regency visit to get SA rego and of course you will have stamp duty on top of that as well for local registration.
also for all those fd owners that are pissed thinking im taking a dig at the price of them, i by no means think they are over priced.
No offence taken. I agree with you, for a S8, unless its something VERY special and perfect in every way WITH GENUINE history (next to impossible to find for auctioned cars like the majority of imports), then those numbers are WAY too much. They are hoping someone will buy on 'emotion' and just drop the cash on the car. They're not that expensive at auction in Japan, especially recently.
In my opinion, paying extra to get a special model like a Bathurst, Spirit R, RZ etc is all a wank. All FD chassis are the same, the only difference is the bolt ons. The only S8 spec level that's really worth getting is the RS because in some cases it's the same price as the RB - most dealers don't know the difference - but it has bigger brakes and twin oil coolers. Parts the Spirit/Bathurst (some) and RZ all have, without the wanky title.
for anyone who has driven them knows they are something else. the fd i drove would out handle my fc anyday of the week and i had 2000 worth of suspension and bushing mods. theyre also fast as hell out the box.

They do come up from time to time, but don't forget to keep an eye on FDrx7.com, good cars come up reasonably often on there and most people on there know the history of a lot of the cars that come up for sale - good or bad.

Oi... don't even think about giving it up, you have already sold off 2 cars for this, ride a push bike or get up at 4am and start walking to work if you have to... I know I would ;)
Yeah, I haven't seen the car that I mentioned, it was my colleague who sms me on the weekend telling me this, I'm a bit of shock for the price too if it's in the condition like you said.
I know you're not keen on importing one, but may be worthwhile to speak to importer such as Iron Chef (Kristian) about it? I know a few guys from here got their cars through him, and I heard only good comments, good price and quality.

Importing does take months and for your first FD or one you don't plan to completely rebuild, it's a big risk to take..
Having said that I am looking to import a track-only car in about 8 - 12 months time, but that is a bit different really :)

Totally agreed that there's always risks buying car sight unseen. Perhaps ask Jesse (Ownage) and Luke from here how to go about it, as they imported theirs, and they are very happy with their experience.
Also Joe told me yesterday that his cousin (or friend) imported a quality FD with reasonable mileage for under $20k, landed, complied, rego and etc included!!

james, the floor bracing was obvious just by kneeling under the car. didnt have coilovers but like you guys said, most are returned to factory parts for compliance. warranties are reasonably useless for the simple reason "wear and tear" are not included. no one says rotaries have a long life span so you by one and the engine lets go and you take them to small claims court, they will have more than enough accounts of engines letting go at that many km so a judgement would be likely its not a a part defect just wear and tear. plus court costs arent cheap. other reason is, you break a part, you still have to get it to the dealership to fix. my skyline had 3 months warranty and when i look back i wasted it because i fixed all the probs myself anyway.
ket, i would walk over broken glass to get one, what made it worse was driving one for myself and going DAMN these are better than i thought. but i cant leave my partner home car less when i go to a mates and i cant sit at home twiddling my thumbs when she goes to her friends or family. if i dont end up with an fd, im not going back to an fc, had one for 5 years and i refuse to pay the rediculous amounts for some of these defectable 808s going for 25,000.
ive been on all the importers wbsites including iron chef after i spoke to jesse and none were in transit or in stock. ive been two weeks without a car at all and it will end up with me making a hasty decision which may cost me alot of money in the future hence why ive had to start looking outside the rotary circle. if i dont end up with a rotor i will face the firing squad and take it as i will deserve it but unless i find an fd in near standard form thats in excellent condition for 25000 its looking less likely.
if i go the interstate route, and i don't make it through regency easily, im not going to have the money left over to keep getting things fixed. i have thought about this alot so its not a cop out. ive got a couple more fds in mind to check out so time will tell.

I personally prefer wingless, and no rear wiper (illegal tho), if u must and on a budget, materials are readily available at Bunnings ;)
Edit: the comment says "Price Neg. 2dr 4seat s8 rx7 TT. Engine and turbo rebuilt at 60k kms. stock cond, well looked after"

Sure FD is fast enough, but where in SA can you go so fast other than in a race course that warrant a massive after market wing over stock wing? It's more of a fashion really, nothing wrong as such, but i'll put in the rice category for cars with massive wing that don't see the race track. I'm happy with the stock S8 wing btw.
Hmm... wingless not ghey in my book.

it you have to go buy a cheap run about, realistically you havent been looking for very long.... I was on the search for a new daily for over 6 months before it popped up (300CE)

i know it seems like im rushing but i cant store 3 cars at my house. im scraping the barrel for money as it is. if i go buy a 2 or 3 grand daily there goes 2 or 3 grand. if that cheap daily breaks down (which they always do when you dont want them to) there goes more money. then when i find an fd i have to get rid of the daily (which may prove difficult)
and lets not forget ive already gone 2 weeks without a car and been activly looking for an fd for 2 months.
its so close so its not like im buying above my pay grade (for those sitting there going why the $%ck is he looking for something he cant afford)
ive put an offer in on a s8 10mins ago but i was honest and said i dont want to waste your time i have this much ready to buy etc if your prepared to drop i have cash waiting. he has to speak to his wife tonight as its up to her (wheres the whip crack noise function!) so see how it goes and if it comes through as acceptable dave and i are going for a drive (if you've got the time dave!)
fingers crossed

Most People with FD's *DO* track their cars..
The wingless posers are just ghey... Thanks for proving my point!
The car below is Andy's I believe - Hyrola on fdrx7.com.
It now has a wing.
And FYI, I never mentioned HUGE wings, you brought those into the conversation. The point i made was that WINGLESS FD's are ghey. Where do you get this fixation on huge wings??
