front im using the original struts with K-Mac adjustable strut tops, pedders shocks, custom springs (200lbs/in) and ive had the strut modified to should the larger disks and calipers off a KE70. New brake hoses and all new nolathane bushes. Also have a custom order (from the US) strut brace

Rear is custom leafs with an addition leaf to stiffen it up and a half rebound leaf to help stop tramping (basically what the IPRA cars ran:D), pedders shocks, bigger U-bolts and modified bottom plates to suit the hilux diff, which has a 4.11 locked centred and has been shortened. Im using the hilux drums on the rear (which are HUGE!). New brake hoses with a line locker tapped in and nolathane bushes

The brakes may seem a little under rated but really they are more than capable due to the light weight of the car

Awesome, so what kind of power figure the engine produces?

Now the car is all go under the bonnet, any plans for improving the exterior?

How would you describe it? eg. fast & nimble, rocket, etc :D Would love to see and hear it in action one day.

last time it was dyno it pulled 155rwkw and 440Nm

Its only running a stock turbo, which has a front wheel that is WAY to small causing a restiction in the top end and making boost drop off to 6-7psi

Plan is to have a hiflow, bigger injectors and 200rwkw once back on the road

exterior is staying AS IS, the car was built as a sleeper and that is how it will stay!

Yeah I wanted the car to be pretty quiet because i believe thats one of the biggest attractions for the cops. I choice to a full 2.5 inch exhaust for this reason. Anything bigger than a 2.5 inch causing boost spike issues for alot of people so i was alway going to run a 2.5 inch dump pipe but opted to keep it 2.5 all the way through to help keep the noise down.

The car runs a rotaflow slimline SS packed resi and a SS muffler before the diff and a rotaflow muffler at the back. Keeps it nice at quiet at idle and cruising around but is still loud enough once you get some revs into it and proved to flow very well, BIG THANKS TO DREW AT AAA EXHAUSTS!

I know the car, Scott from down south owned it as one point. Last i heard some young bloke owns it and cruising it everywhere

Its come along way since then, just asked the previous owner;)

I bought the car as a rolling shell and in desperate need of some TLC, the only things that remain from when i bought it is the engine/gbox mounts and the retrimmed seats/door trims.

The car will be a sleeper for as long as i own it

yeah im real happy with how the daily has turned out

I spent a couple of months either snapping an axle or blowing a diff centre every weekend, got pretty sick of that so upgraded to a hilux so i knew i wouldnt have to worry about it ever again.

Got the front suspension all back in today and back into a driveable state, been sitting for a few months but started up first go. Idling for about 30 secs and sounded like it had a stickie seal then died and couldnt get it restarted..........

Fouled the brand new plugs, so cleaned then and started it again. Still didnt sound to flash but took it for a quick spin and once warm and given some decent revs if cleaned out and ran heaps better. Really needs a good freeway run to clean it out properly so ill probably grab the trade plate from dads work and do that sometime this week.

New suspensions is nice and stiff, cant wait to take it through the hills and really test it out.

oil seal in the turbo have gone, so i just bought a brand new garret T04E and HKS manifold with external gate

turbo specs
AR .70
R .82

Stock S4 turbo is AR .45 i believe and R .80, with the stock turbo boost was dropping off to 6-7 psi in the top end which was hurting my power figure. New turbo should fix this problem, so while seriously increasing my front wheel size ill also be getting double the boost up top (fingers crossed).

Should results in a very healthy power figure : )

both the manifold and turbo were bought through ausrotary, the manifold is only a second hand one. Turbo however is brand new.

Front suspension is GREAT now, only thing is its got 165's on the front and even though there a quality tyre (RE040) they simply arent wide enough. I will be changing these for some 195's shortly then it will be heaps better

So what base spring will be running in the new external gate, and are you definately bringing it out on the bday cruise or is it still dependant on if the work can get done in time?

Simon.Ok this is going to be a long post.......SORRY!

I bought the manifold knowning that it was to suit an FC, however i asked for pics and it looked like the manifold was very similiar in design to my current one, which is actually a cast one to suit a S1-3 and S4 turbo, so was hoping that it would fit. Unfortunately due to how the wastegate flange was done on the HKS manifold it hits my crossmember. I will getting one made up from scratch, not a cheap exercise ($600-$700) but it will flow better and means i can position the turbo exactly where i want:D

Gate comes standard with a 7psi spring PLUS a spare 10psi and 15psi, Ill be using the 10psi spring and more than likely be running 12psi.

I can say ill definitely be at the bday cruise with it, Ill be spewing if it isnt! but atm its looking like it will be ready by the end of the month.

OKE020 is a legend, the man definitley knows how to build a quick car. his beast (as you prob know) is now 2JZ powered and his current goal is 1hp/kg power to weigh. The motor has been built for it, just needs to turn the boost up once the car is all sorted. I think his best to date is 8.6 on DOT tyres. I love those vids, they were the inspiration for my car from the start. Has been interesting knowning what his car run, which we had a track so i could of compared them properly. I believe his car did
13BT, stock turbo, 155's 4spd box 12.6, 11.9 on slicks
13BT hiflo, auto,slicks 10.6

capella re

good work, i ran the 10 pound spring in the 45mm turbosmart gate i ran in my rx7. It came with the 6 pound spring but when we wound the boost to 14psi the boost was fluctuating up and down and wouldnt hold boost. i thought it was the greddy ebc i had but mark mills worked it out to be the spring too soft to hold boost at higher levels. Wasnt planning to run less than 10psi anyway so no prob for me. cant wait to see it in the flesh again but i'm sure your not going to be too keen to pop the bonnet in front of 200 people (including the po po) but we'll see i guess.

recently regoed the car, been enjoying driving it again plus having the time to do a bit of work on it.

Been serviced, CAI done which was a major pain! 4inch piping and not much room ment it needed a pretty tight bend, cheers to LeRoy at BTR for the help with that.

Finally cleaned up and painted my half cage so i can see how that looks in the car

Borrowed a pair of 14x10 rims with 265's off Paul, just need the beads reset and ill bolt them on and see how i go with some grip :)

Unfortunately though my g/box is well on its way to going BANG so when that does happen (doubt it will last too much longer) it will be off the road again for bigger front brakes and 8kg coilovers in the front. New clutch/flywheel as well as a new g/box to obviously lol

Also currently planning out a water spray set-up for between the radiator and intercooler, while the radiator is out ill be getting it flushed and recored if neccessary

After all this ill turn the boost up, its plenty quick enough on 10psi anyway.

Fitted the half cage, main loop is nice and snug with the B pillar so im happy with that and its painted black so doesnt stand out a great deal. The venetian does help hide it but it can still be seen from the back, ill keep it in for now....

Had to make a new rear parcel shelf to suit as well, came up pretty good.

Since fitting my 4 point harnesses and the looped bolts needed to do so i havnt been able to fit my fire ext in its holder as it fouled on the loops. So today i made up a spacer for the bracket to fit it up above the loops. fire ext fits back in its holder now:) its mounted on my tunnel behind the handbrake

Simon its a just a simple water nozzle which sprays water on the radiator/intercooler/oil cooler to help keep temps down. Ive got two spraying the radiator and one each for the intercooler and oil cooler. Wont effect tune at all, no need for a retune.

Today i refitted the water pump, alt and set-up my water spray set-up. Need to fit some heat proofing around my turbo oil drain then i can bolt the radiator and hoses back in. Oil feed had been dropped off to Leroy at BTR for him to make me a new braided line, once thats back it will be running again :)

Simon its a just a simple water nozzle which sprays water on the radiator/intercooler/oil cooler to help keep temps down. Ive got two spraying the radiator and one each for the intercooler and oil cooler. Wont effect tune at all, no need for a retune.

yeah ok, sorry had it confused with a water injection set up you were talking about at a dyno day. i had this sort of setup but for intercooler only. had it set up on a hobbs pressure switch so when it hit 10psi it would start squirting. constantly need to check nozzles though because all the chemicals in tap water clogs them up quite frequently. i spent a couple of extra bucks and went for the copper garden nozzles instead of plastic.
i actually bought a little corolla with a worked 5k. there was a switch on the dash never knew what it did. couple of weeks later was armouroiling the dash and out side was quiet, accidentally hit the switch and heard a fuel pump noise in the boot. this guy had an oil injection set up spraying two nozzles (spraying oil) at the rear tyres for skids. lucky i didn't flick it mid corner at 80km/h!!!!!

very dangerous! yeh ive used copper garden nozzles : )

Ive just got an ON switch to press when i want it to spray.

Today i finished bolting everything back together under the bonnet except the turbo oil feed which im still waiting for, so car is very very close to being driveable again.

Sorted out all the bolts/nuts i need for my seat brackets, so a quick trip to get them then i can start marking out my brackets.

had an interesting weekend driving the car out to Morgan

My lift pump died, luckily i have two primary pumps so was able to redo my lines so i could use one as a lift pump and the other as the primary. Was disappointing cos it happened on the way out there so didnt get to enjoy the car in the cooler weather.

Pretty annoyed, because the lift pump was a brand new carter and only 1 yr old

So now the plan is to redo my fuel set-up in the boot, i was planning on doing it anyway so now it'll just happen i bit sooner than planned. Plans are:

60-70 litre fuel cell
new surge tank
new lift pump
new primary pumps (044)

Mate that sucks.. How did you have the lift pump fitted because that can some time be the cause of the failure

If you need to borrow a spare lift pump for the cruise just let me know unless if are getting it all done before the cruise

I wouldnt say ive had a whole heap of trouble with the car, ive just been slowly upgrading things when needed. I was never real happy with the fuel set-up from the start, maninly due to the small stock tank, and had always planned to change it. But for the 18 months since the car was "on the road" its done the job very well.

The date is set for the sunday 28th of march

And the question about the position of the pump (eg was it mounted the correct way up and lower than the pickup/ exit point of the tank) rather than the order they were fitted

Cool, pretty sure i can have the new set-up in by then

Oh sorry, yeh it was mounted correctly as mentioned above

Today i removed the fuel set-up in the boot, including the fuel tank.

Fuel cell has been priced up and will be on its way shortly (cheers James)

Boot will receive a fresh coat of paint while its empty

boot has been completelly stripped and given a fresh coat of black paint.

A couple of custom braces for the rear have been measured and up and will be made shortly

Hopefully the cell arrives soon so i can start measuring out the surge tank dimensions needed. Then that can be made too

EDIT: also fitted new front indicator lenses

capella re

so ryan, when you install the fuel cell what do you do about a fuel gauge?? yeah i know i should worry about my own fuel gauge :) just wondering does the cell come with an in built sender that isnt too hard to hook a factory or aftermarket gauge to or is it going to be a pain in the ass?
and ive actually got a bit of that carpet in my cupboard if you want it, its like a dark grey with a 2mm rubber backing, you can do the boot or a parcel shelf of stick it to mdf and make a fake back or side in your boot area, if you want it just sing out and i'll drop it off sometime.
where you get the lenses, nos or egay?? egays where i got my rx2 ones from (thailand) they were perfect and damn cheap.
are the braces your making to hold the cell in place or braces as in between your rear struts (probably a stupid question but its been a while since ive seen in the boot of a 25!)
now all you need is some black and chrome 18's (at least theyve got good tyres right ;) )

FLEX
15-03-2010, 09:17 PM
cell has a sender inbuilt simon, and ive got an aftermarket fuel guage to match my other guages so shouldnt be to hard to sort out :)

The lenses i actually already had but completely forgot about, there not brand new so i must of picked up a real gd second hand set at some point. found them while cleaning the shed over the wknd haha gave them a clean and polishand they came up great. Ill get some pics next time im at the car.

Nah cell will be mounted to the boot floor, one brace is for between the strut towers and the other is to tie in the rear mount points of the cage

oh and its a 20 ; )

haha at all the little things im sure you will fit in time mate, dont worry i can see the potential in the car as im sure you can!

yeah its going good. just looking into what we were talking about on saturday with removing some of the heat (radiator thermostat fan control temp), so is damian so we're helping each other out. then i want to open the intake a bit more, new dump pipe then bigger frontmount and a bit more boost and that should do it for a while i reckon (yes i've said that before on many cars i've owned too!)

and a new set of wheels is up there too!! (but last due to i cant see them when i'm driving so i don't care that much)

fuel cell arrived today, CHEERS JAMES!!!

diagrams have bee sent off to get my surge tank made

Got my fitler and ordered my fitting for the tank (made it just in time to pirteck James, bloke was real helpfull but unfortunately they didnt have the fittings in stock). so hopefully the car isnt in pieces for too much longer. Just waiting for parts basically.

After paying extra for the foam filled tank i found out that i can't run it due to the fact i run pre-mix (it breaks it down) so pulled it out

Surge tank is going to be roughly 3.75ltrs so wont ever have any fuel starvation problems

fuel set-up is complete and car is running again. In the short drive i had in the car it seems to have a bit more rear grip. Having the tank further back over the rear wheels def helps

haha not your fault at all Simon, you seem more upset about it than me. Might have to take you up on that offer, hopefully i have time over the weekend to head down to the shed and start trying to work out exactly whats wrong with it.

Still runs, doesnt idle by itself though. Drives but chugs and def down on power (not that i pushed it, limped it home). Without havin a good look or comp test yet i would say its dropped an apex seal or maybe a side/corner seal

FC calipers-rebuild

steering/LCA etc will also need changing/modifying to suit the struts, not looking forward to the hassles that will bring

Rims n tyres, cheers to corey for the hook up with tyres!
Notice the nanna ride height, rock solid stiff but keeping with the sleeper theme:smiley1:

as you can see they stick out the guards roughly an inch

So i tackled the rear guards with a heatgun, hammer and rubber mallet. resulting in....

This shows how much extra room i now have with the 14x7's back on it, these use to sit flush with the lip and even tho rolled scrubbed on accasions.
Dont mind the cracked paint, shiny paint doesnt make it go faster. Ill get around to fixing it
The plan for down the track is to get some 15's made in the same offset/wide as the 14's and run a 225-235 rear tyres. Bit of extra grip would be nice

good to see you finally found some free time, putting it to good use i see. seeing it without the manifold on for the first time i didn't realise how snug in the bay the 13b was. sits real nice and low which is obviously a major benefit for handling.

was it planned or just worked out that way once the mount were done??

yeah no mucking around, guards took a few hrs each but the bay strip down was done in under an hr.

Motor def sits nice and LOW in the car, it was planned. Crossmember has been cut and rewelded lower to allow the motor to sit so low. It also helped to fix the S5 gearbox in, only the top of the tunnel is boxed. But it is pretty tight in there.

Not much has happend on the car front, bought another pair of 15 inch chasers for the rear. Put some 225/60/15's on, they JUST fit in the guards so might need to flare them a bit more again. Also picked up a set a 14 inch mesh rims that i will keep for the rear also. Collected a few parts here and there, some major changes will be taking place. The fun begins once the car comes out of storage and is back at my house. Stay tuned.
