Should we try to build (member) numbers up first before organising a date?
i don't think there'd be any problems with attendance numbers at all if it was announced.
There's just the matter of getting insurance etc etc as a large club meet and cruise like that. I know most of you don't care about it and just want to cruise but it's still a matter that would have to be addressed before anything could be organised.
Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong

I doubt that many cruises have insurance at all..
Would be interesting to know if Zippel does, as those are getting HUGE...

Well i might as well be the first to mention it.
Any plans for one this year? its always a massive turnout and a great cruise/day.
Would be a shame not to have one. I want to bring the new car out

I think Eros has a good point. If they are being organised under the banner of a club, the organisers of the cruise could be held liable for any mishaps.

Well we organise 3 cruises/yr for NS.com (have done for the past 4 yrs)...the last in Feb this yr had over 500 cars attended...we have never had insurance, our legal advice was providing you meet on public property eg a carpark open to the public and do not charge an entry fee, you don't need it.....you can collect donations but you can't state $X per person/car entry fee.
Hope that helps

I wonder what is the average number of cars attended in the past, as I have never been in one, a few hundred cars sounds like a big number to me in our quiet Adelaide, will likely cause traffic jam?

Could we get donations to the club? Those that want to contribute throw in a few bucks, otherwise don't worry about it? Ie, completely voluntary?

I was just looking through old copies of Fast Fours, and found one with an article from 2006 Birthday cruise. some nice pictures, especially the car park full or rotars.
but it said over 90 cars, and did have a pic of some other cars, a soarer, a few skylines.

I don't care what anyone says.... a rotor cruise is on the cards no matter what....
The thing is everyone says yea yea we will organize one but it seems no one does...
so whats the deal guys?
yes police are out in force but when arnt they...
other forums are having heaps of small cruises.
which I don't think is suitable to rotary vehicles, as people only take em out every so often because of the type of car they are...
so one or two big cruises a year sounds good...
and incentives to go on the cruises would be good like a bbq or sumtin afterwards...
In sydney there is a new club, the Vintage Mazda Owners Club of NSW and they are doing just that...
Isnt that what SA rotors was about in the past???
just my 2c.

No offence you are allowed to put in your 2c (this goes for everyone else on the forums out there) If you want to cruise, organise one yourselves. Don't keep relying on SAR to do it for you all the time.
Not trying to start fights with anyone, but out of all you lot asking about a cruise someone could have organised something by now.
Tally

100% agree with you man.
But it aint that easy to just go and organize a cruise and expect 250 cars to rock up or what not.
SA rotors is the name that everyone knows so if a cruise is to be organized, its to be under that name.
Sure a lot of people organize cruises, but it aint that enjoyable/worth wild if only a few cars rock up...
By all means im willing to help out and get a cruise underway...
Im willing to organise a suitable cruise route, can we use "SA Rotors 6th Bday Cruise"???
Id need someone to design a poster and help with a date/time though

The second one has potential!!!
Just my 2c:
At the bottom perhaps add "for more info please visit www.sarotors.org", this way can increase the publicity of the forum too.
The slogan and the info can be a tad smaller, they are fighting with the heading a bit.
I liked the heading. I'm thinking may be somewhere around the heading add a rotor in there?

Hello All,
We are now in August, it's been very quiet here and it will be the end of 2009 before you know it, can I suggest another cruise between now and X'mas?
I understand that the tension is high with the recent hoon incidents, if everyone adhere to the law and has a legal car, I can't see any issues here really.
Can I also suggest any old members (or anyone who's keen) from here to lead and organise this time? reason being I now have two jobs going at once, so my hours are very unpredictable, so much to a point that my PDA is useless. It won't be good if the organiser can't make it to the cruise in the last minute haha. So anyone up for it?
This would be a chance for everyone on here to meet and greet, we can have some activities such as BBQ or lunch at a pub etc. Weather should be better by then so bring all rotars out of hibernation, shed, garage, closet whatever!

Haha thanks for the interest guys, however I can not organise or do the lead this time due to working hours have dramatically changed (no point for me to organise one if I may or may not make it myself), so we're all waiting for someone to raise his/her hand to organise one.
There's still plenty of time between now and X'mas, I'm pretty sure something will happen.

I guess we could just pick a date, then use Ket's route from last time - it looked like a good one! Is there really anything more than that to do?
capella re
13-08-2009, 08:22 PM
definately nothing wrong with that. kets route was a good one, nice and windy away from the mass population. the only new thing we need is a new meet point as the carpark we met up at was not big enough to comfortably hold more than say 20 cars and the driveway would hurt frontbars and exhausts of slammed cars. so new meet point set a date, use kets old route and its on an poppin. oh yeah and a chase car to deploy spike strips for the five 0.
Kusanagi
13-08-2009, 09:43 PM
Hey Simon, how did you know the route was good since we lost you half way hahaha? You must have discovered something new?
The route was originally suggested by rotas4, but we didn't follow exactly, because Matt suggested a better route from Lobethal onward, he was the lead car from that point, and that was the best part.
I was thinking may be to have an early start, so activities like lunch at a pub, BBQ etc can be part of it, rather than just plain cruise, and anyone here please suggest.
BTW, I think the meet point car park can fit 40 no problem, and I didn't notice the ground clearance of the entrance as I have no problem with my stock height anywhere :D

yeah will fit 40 cars door to door but where the hell am i spose to do doughnuts. im probably going to get groaned for that but i'll do them quietly!!!!
i think it would struggle to fit 40 but the last bday cruises have had over 100, not suggesting it will be that big but better to be safe than have cars parked halfway down the road

Misbehavior is a real concern in organising a cruise, since this is not a club anymore, individuals who organise one will need to take that policing responsibility upon themselves, people are having concern just to drive their car out on the road these days, let alone organise one, perhaps this is the reason no one put their hands up to lead one?
Anyway, time will tell.

I Agree Ket,
Even I noticed the day I got my S6 RX7, I was still getting used to driving it, Everyone was trying to be idiots...
Count that arvo was:
3x R33 Skylines
1x R34 Skyline
1x Toyota Sprinter
2x RS Supras
All that driving just from Grand Junction to Elizabeth. (12Km)
I guess that's why most Owners keep them in the Garage....
Essentially, A "Meet and Greet" would be possible, but essentially if you want to break the law, it's on the irresponsable persons head.

That's part of the reason my FD stays in the shed most of the time.. so over idiots in skylines and commodores thinking I want to race because my car has an exhaust and GT wing :)
Now I ignore them, I don't even look at them - and i've even turned off just so I'm not driving near a 'typical hoon' to coin a media phrase..
Anyway, end hoon-rant :)
I'm all for a small catch up and cruise - but I guess regardless of what happens it's on the owner/drivers head if they do something wrong or turn up in a defectable car and get done.

I totally agree, but I usually try to take them as I find them. Unfortunately these days though more often than not you'll often see dirty beatup silvias/skylines, commodores and other types of cars with drivers who don't care - often they'll speed through traffic to catch up, sit on your bumper, rev the engine and dump the clutch IN TRAFFIC, trying to get you to race them. I should have said before, but these are the ones I try to get away from...
You'll hate me, but I've never been pulled over once yet ;)

any dates fine with me as said before. In my opinion bunnings parafield is asking for trouble as its renound as a meet point and cops can shut it down real quick. i know no one will be doing anything wrong but i live in reality where that doesn't matter. If anyone is familiar with inglefarm shopping centre that is really good as a meet point and has a large area south west of the shopping cetre that hardly ever gets filled. Ive been on a few jap cruises leaving from there and its real easy to get in and out of too with plenty of room for mingling. Up to you though ryan.
p.s. ingle farm has its fair share of car club meets there too but because its a bit more out of the way, cops generally do a driveby and then spectate from up near the shops.

help with picking a meet point, cruise route, suitable stopping points. Basically what were doing now in this thread. A suggestion for the date is a good start. Meet time i would say 1030 for an 1130 sharp departure.
I cant remember a bday cruise with less than 100 cars, id say this one would be no different.

Definitely valid points, the police have always been informed about our cruises and the only people who get in trouble as a rule are the ones being stupid. The best advise i can give is dont be a show off as you enter the meet point, as this is what usually results in unwanted attention from the boys in blue.
Ingle farm would definitely be a more suitable meet point.

yeh i was on that cruise too, took "EVO 10". the cops only stopped the ones with ridiculus 'mods' like wheels sticking an inch+ outside the guards etc plus the fact it was a NS cruise, so i dont think we would have too much to worry about

FLEX:
I'm not familiar with the north, so I can't help much here, I was merely picked out a location on google map last time.
Vortex:
Only issue with that route is there will be no stopping, must drive all the way through Loberthal as there's no car park big enough to hold this many cars, traffic will be stopped and the local will probably bit*h and mourn to the cops, not a good thing. So I'm suggesting may be take the highway where road can accommodate more cars.
The route we took last cruise is more appropriate for small cruise.
I've never been to any previous SAR cruises, anyone remember the routes?

whats wrong with etsa park? it holds enough cars as long as there is no event on and its pretty much central to everything
cant really have to many twistes with such a large number of cars, its just a recipe for disaster.
Nothing wrong with etsa park, but ive got a couple of ideas for a cruise route, all of which are heading north so a northernish meet point would better suit

To be honest as good an idea as insurance is, I doubt it would be affordable....
Thats why so many car events arent held any more, Insurance can be a killer...
Everything Car related has gone thru the roof....
When I booked Campbelltown oval the first time I ran the SMASA Show n Shine there years ago I think I payed $120 for the oval for 2 days... within 2 years it was $2000. The council was raking in thousands in parking fines as well. I cant complain, we cleared $38 000 profit on the show....

Personally I would say no, I would prefer if the whole group didn't tag along. It's an SA Rotors cruise, in the past they have been very well supported and I expect this one will be no different.
I'm going along to cruise with Mazdas and other Rotaries, not skylines. There are heaps of other Datsun cruises out there you can tag along with aren't there?

In the past we have always said the more the merier, just as long as they obey the law and no stupid business.

I agree with Vortex, I would much rather cruise with rotars; from both a recognition point of view (the public), and if we let Nissans tag along the police are more likely to start defecting people (Imo).
However, I wouldnt see any harm in them meeting up at the same starting point as us, the more the merrier in that aspect =)
As well as sharing an appreciation for Rotars, we can say that we also share an appreciation for Japanese sports cars in general =D In other words, I'd be worried if we let commodorres be associated with us, haha.

Also Im thinking of doing another poster run this week...
Looking to go down south south as basically 3/4 of all SA's rotors are down south :P
Anyone recommend more places down there?
Bridgestone reynella is a good place.
Tony down there has a nice rx2.
I agree with Vortex, I would much rather cruise with rotars; from both a recognition point of view (the public), and if we let Nissans tag along the police are more likely to start defecting people (Imo).
i think thats alittle unfair mate, ive owned plenty of rotars in the past, and to tell you the truth ive been defected more in my mazda's than any nissan ive owned
As well as sharing an appreciation for Rotars, we can say that we also share an appreciation for Japanese sports cars in general =D In other words, I'd be worried if we let commodorres be associated with us, haha.
think the general censenus is you guys would like your own cruise, and i respect that
enjoy your cruise lads
its a mazda/rotary cruise, but at the end of the day you cant stop someone using the same PUBLIC roads that we will be.

Just gonna keep some in the car for when I see rotors, as ive seen so many lately but haven't been able to leave a small flyer...

ive always loved to do a video something along the lines of this:
YouTube - JCCS 2007 Official DVD
I couldnt tackle something like this on my own for the Bday cruise but would be good if I could get something together like this for a future cruise or show...
maybe leave it for AJD next year? would be killa!

I thought your best mate with the Silver FD and the funny gf wanted to borrow them? I kept forgetting his name.
They're good tyres, a little weak in the wet, but superior in the dry.

I'll be cleaning up a couple of our cars for the cruise!
Cyra will drive the FC and I will bring my RX7, should be loads of fun!!!
The Finest Detail would like to sponsor the cruise and will put up some prizes to be won on the day.
2 Full Vehicle Details
3 Mini Details
1 Single Stage Machine Polish
Every Driver will recieve a $20 voucher to use on any service at The Finest Detail.
So if you want to start throwing around some categories that can be won by individual cars/ owners.
Eg, best daily driven, best homebuilt, the most cash poured in, or whatever there may be then that'd be great :)

Sigh.. They have their own cruises. Let us have ours.
It's been said before, the odd Nissan can rock up and we can't stop them, but I don't think it's ideal to get a whole pile of wankers in skylines to tag along. Seriously.
