LSD 1.5 or 2 way question..

Hi guys got a silly question.. I'm going to check out a aftermarket mechanical lsd diff at a wreckers on saturday, they cant tell me whether its 1.5 or 2 way etc. My question is can you tell by looking at the centre whether it is a 1.5 or 2 way and what to look for. :D thanks

hey jesse, its not a silly question. determining a 1.5 from a 2 way with the centre out the car is frikkin hard man. apparantly the pin that goes through the centre will have a flat side to the pin if its a 1.5 way or 2 flat edges on the pin if its a 2 way.

think of the above as a 1.5 way and if it had a flat edge on the top as well as the bottom it would be a two way.
its really hard to tell and i know what ive said hardly makes sense but its really hard to describe. if you can just look for the pin similar as shown above (or any cylindrical pin in the centre of the diff) look for 1 or 2 flat sides to tell.
if anyone has a better or easier way to tell please help a brother out!!!

if you can get the brand name and/or any stamps (model numbers off it) that could help googling it and seeing if a specific diff to that model number can tell you anything
thats the only advice i can give

oh and by the way, the test that you use when the diff is fitted to the car of jacking the car up and turning the wheels won't work with the diff not fitted. your fingers arent strong enough to replicate the action without the leveridge of the axles and wheels

i cant find a good picture of a real life pin to look for.
if the wrecker has any other 1.5 or two ways (doesn't matter if its not for an fc rx7) and just check out the difference between the two centre pins. should quite easily see if you have both side by side, then just see which one closer matches your pin.
