God damn nathan, you've done such a good job and in a pretty short amount of time too. Who's doing the tune and what are you expecting from it? any headaches crop up or pretty smooth sailing?
If I had half the talent and patience some of you guys have, mine wouldn't be for sale in the next few weeks. well done mate.

I don't know how these guys do it either dude. I'm standing in the shed now scratching my head wondering where to start. Looks awsome dude. What turbo is that it looks massive!
binnzy
17-01-2012, 08:31 PM
Cheers fella's! I'll put it down to heaps of preparation and planning as well as luck! Lol!
Smooth sailing so far Simon but well see if there's any gremlins on the dyno?? Clints tuning it so I think I've got the right man for the job. Gonna put 14 psi through it to start off with... that should be enough to scare the shit out of me lol!
The turbo's a Garrett T04z with a split pulse 1.00 rear so should be fairly responsive with the bridgy ;o) As you can probably tell I'm getting pretty excited!! Ha ha!!
Cheers again!!

looks very neat.. you do all the work yourself?
interested to see what the 12a puts out..
binnzy
17-01-2012, 08:53 PM
Yep mate all done in my shed- apart from the alloy welding on the intercooler pipes.. Bit out of my league to try welding 2.5mm thick ally lol! But yeah made my exhaust, fuel set-up, all the pipes and brackets etc even wired in the lt10s ;o)
Hope she puts out some decent numbers but I only want 14psi max to start off with, that should net high 200's- plenty for something so small and light lol!

So had a couple of gremlins pop up last Saturday...mainly due the crazy heat!
First up, Boiled the brake fluid on the dyno. fixed that now with motul rbf600 racing fluid.
Secondly, started putting some boost into it and blew the exhaust manifold gasket so I've changed that with a new metal one..... Should get some decent power out of it as it made 150rwkw on 5psi @7800rpm stay tuned there's more to come, cheers Binnzy ;o)
13bwankel
27-01-2012, 08:28 PM
Like i said the other day when you came into work, mad power for that boost, and the turbo isn't anywhere near it's effiecent working range!

27-01-2012, 08:37 PM
It's so much fun to drive on 5psi can't imagine how it's gonna be with 15psi! Lol! P.s shoots &$)$ing huge flames at night!! Ha ha

Sweet, was it easy to fix the exhaust gasket?? or did you pull stuff apart to do it
The flames it was popping at idle with all the fuel in it was crazy and made lots of heat. is it still popping flames ??
When you getting it tuned again mate :popcorn2:

28-01-2012, 03:48 PM
Wasn't much to put the new gasket on Matt, just pulled the whole manifold off with the turbo and gate still attached... MTQ gave me a new v band clamp so that was a bonus (cos the old one's thread stripped)! Also sdr sent me a new beanie and a complimentary t-shirt cos I got a dodgy beanie that cooked itself...... Hmmmm
Yeah shoots big yellow flames now if ya get it working hard ;o)
Did ya get any cool footage on ya handycam?
Fat 4 RE

I'm not really into numbers mate as every dyno's different.. I just want a nice snappy/angry/reliable set-up, but in saying that 250rwkws will be plenty... see how she goes? made 150rwkw on 5psi so should be achievable....:whip:

Belching flames at shutdown will probably stop tomorrow binnzy. It'd be running rich as hell at the moment. It's just unburnt fuel burning when it sees oxygen at your tailpipe. That's all. Where you getting it tuned? It'll be a blast to be able to open her up at last!
binnzy
10-02-2012, 05:05 PM

Pure perfection. Beautiful car, awesome upgrade. Spewing about the motor but atleast its up and running again. I abused an import motor on 10psi and it lasted 18 months on thrashing so hopefully you have some trouble free cruising ahead.

How much prep work was involved to get the block looking that good?

Good work binnzy, love your attention to detail. Is that paint crinkle black? Or matt/satin black? Quick turn around too.
So do ya know who did the porting? Guess it scratched the shit out of the end/intermediate plates too?
Ya should get the rotor/housing squirted and hang it in the shed for an ornament.

A fair bit of cleaning involved mate... Gotta get all the old oil and grease of it (tape up the ports) then scourer pad/sand the old paint off so the new stuff sticks. Pull basically all the ancillaries off the motor and anything else you don't want painted then paint the silver first, wait for it to dry for a couple of days then mask up the silver and then go for it with the black then clear ;o):chewydancing:

Cheers mate ;o) the motors done in high gloss but the gloss only comes out once the motor has gotten hot as it cures the paint.... So now it's glossy as!
The old motor isn't too bad.. if I could find the parts I'd slap it back together but finding decent 12at parts is too hard now ;o( it's on the broken parts shelf with all the other bits collected over the years lol! Thinking of making a key ring out of the chipped apex seal ha ha!

Hey ya's been a bit quiet lately but finished my rear r31 brake up-grade tonight.
got rid of those crappy hilux drums finally! Used some pre-fabricated brackets so the conversion was pretty straight forward just had to make custom hand-brake cables and brake hard-lines and re drill discs.. no dramas! ;o) just hanging to try them out now but this weather is'nt kind ;o(

pimp mate!!!!
i hope you thought about the fact you need movement on the calipers as the pads wear and i think you should and some flex hose in there
like this so you don't brake/crack a hard line if you get movement
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7966/dsc03952f.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/265/dsc03952f.jpg/)
got to catch up soon buddy

hey bud the bloke at ABS said just an 's' shape in the line is fine as caliper movement is very minimal?? hope he's right!
carlitto
01-05-2012, 11:52 PM
Hate to say it mate, but flex lines needed.
they look like Single piston calipers?.. which work on slide pin set up to provide even pressure on both pads
caliper movement will fatigue the solid line and it will crack...
binnzy
02-05-2012, 07:19 AM
Thanks guys ;o) lucky I put a pic up! Otherwise I would have left it like that! I'll be changing them today grrrr!! No biggie though as I've got the flex lines for the calipers still... Lucky! Will get crack'n!! Wanna try them out lol!
binnzy
02-05-2012, 05:28 PM
Ok take 2! Changed to flex lines now ;o) used some brake line brackets off some old struts and welded them to the diff so the lines are anchored. Also re-made the hard lines to suit.... much better!

Much better mate and at least you know it won't be a issue later
next thing is braided lines when you get time and money, such a better feel under the foot me thinks and you should never have to replace them (unlike rubber one that expand under load and heat and rubber also tends to crack and get brittle) my lines were $50-70 each in the end From ABS Keswick
Now i should get the bracket on them like you did to secure them to the diff ( i did the same and had them for years just sitting in the shed :o )

The bridgy is almost in the 2 but the diff won't last long once it's run in.

Cheers Benny! I was lucky to get the LSD hilux diff out of a donor rx4 that was t-boned :o( rod-tech did the shortening and set up of pinion angle/mounts etc so all I had to do was whack it in and get a custom tail-shaft made up by Hardy Spicer ;o)
Got the calipers from u-pull it and the brackets from Luke (Hirevn) will definitely have to catch up soon mate ;o)
