View Full Version : How much power should i be making?

I just got my tune cleaned up a bit by boostworx and it is making 150rwkw on 11.5 psi (no boost controller).
car just has a 3" turbo back exhaust, fmic, microtech, extend ported engine, and hi flow turbo (although i am not sure of the specs of the turbo).
is this a reasonable figure? boostworx reads a little lower than some other dynos

I would have expected a but more power, but maybe a couple more pounds will get it singing. That combo should be good for about 180rkw+ if the fuel system will support it.
as above, a decent size hiflo with the mentioned mods should make 180-200rwkw
the power your making suggests you in fact only have a standard turbo

yeah the guy i bought it off wasn't sure of the specs of the turbo, so i suspect it's probably only rebuilt and cleaned up

What injectors are you running aswell? Will struggle to make any more power than that without some more fuel

1000cc injectors, also has bosch coils and microtech ignition booster, so all the supporting mods to make more power.
might have had a bigger turbo previously, or the previous owner was intending on running a bigger turbo.

sounds about right if you have a s4 turbo and standard ports
a highflowed s5 turbo will get you much closer to 200kw
but your right i found boostworx reads about 5-10% lower than alot of dynos so with that in mind you could have made 160-170kw

yeah its real funny how some calibrate their dynos????
my S5 engine made 187rwkw@10psi on tilbrooks

Yeh i would always check to make sure you intercooler piping and intake system is seald as that can have a massive effect. like for example my FC had 22*rwkws at 14-16psi and then when i got it all reseald it made 251.*rwkws at 11psi @7***rpm with less lag. and i went to many different tuners to try and get more out of her and none of them new about the leaks as its something you cant see really lol , i just thought to do it as in theory it made sense to me and here you go it worked.

I'm a little surprised that 1000cc secondaries ran out of juice.. just upgrade your primaries and you'll be sweet. should see 190ish I would think

My secondaries were 1600cc. If ya gonna pop a seal, it'll be at the top of ya rev range because of a lean out. Big Injectors and fuel pump( with a rising rate reg) are a good insurance policy against it in my opinion. Better to waste a little fuel bein too rich than waste an engine bein too lean!
My first engine cracked the rear end plate right near the oil sender, I suspect that was from leaning out ( I had 4x880 injectors and a f9 fuel only computer at that stage).

Seems a bit strange mike.
I would be wondering if the secondaries are 1000cc then, are they hi flowed Mazda or another type.
I have seen people make almost 200kw on the std injectors and highflow before the juice runs out. The std Mazda fuel reg is good for up to 300kw so that shouldn't be an issue and plenty of fuel from the pump?
Did Sean put a fuel pressure gauge in to make sure pump is good?
Then there is the comp but I'm sure he would check that and let you know before going on the Dyno.
My car has.

Very strange that it ran out of fuel, But at the same time i think Shauns dyno reads low aswell so its not toooo bad a figure.
(Try getting your car dynoed twice with two different port combinations to make 82HP both times....now thats dissapointing lol)
Mine Made 160rwkw on his dyno with various problems
keep us updated with what you find out

Get an electronic boost controller, install a fuel pressure gauge in line, Check all your intake/cooler clamps. There seems to be something we're missing here. There's something holding the beast back. Are the stock coolers very restrictive?

Thanks for the comments... I was really hoping for around 190kw. I had the comp tested (cost extra!) and everything was good. I think Shaun said fuel supply was holding it back so it might be one of the pump/surge/filter but I didn't have the funds to keep looking. The front mount is 2 x S5 intercoolers welded together which are also apparently notorious for leaking.
I'll have a look on the weekend and check all my intake/cooler clamps and check the injectors out too.

Honestly mate, I'd get one of those enormous eBay cheapy intercoolers. That's what I had. 300x600x75 or something. They are a good unit, that will eliminate the questions about the restrictive/leaking coolers. Then get an 044 fuel pump, and some 1600cc injectors. Then boost like crazy!

dont take any dyno figure as bible as all dyno's can be tampered with to read higher or lower by the dyno place depending on what they want you to see ;)

am thinkin around 200kw maybe 220 with d mods , i know some dynos are out , so its one of those touchy subjects between people or loyal customers that go to companys , there mildrens , tilbrooks , turbo tune, boostin oz , an others am not going to tell u who dynos i think are out , not on here any way..lol....but juz be careful an always as for a rich tune, ,...also if u run semi slicks on a dyno that will effect ya power figures ,...

Yeah I could, but in all honesty, I'm not all that competive. I'd have a look at sleeka spares or MTQ.
