To be honest, you can not be given a correct price on how much it will be to rebuild a motor.
Alot of variables to building a motor and costs, depends on if your housings or rotas are damaged, what seals etc.
Anyone who tells you a price to build a motor without the motor being stripped and being able to actually look at it, is blowing wind up your skirt.
Obviously advising a price for labour is fine as you dont have to look at the motor to advise on labour costs but anything other than that well........
P.S this post is not intended to upset anyone

Im offended... Not !
She is right guys, cant count cost without leaping inside the motor first... I ve been looking around for my FD and got the following quotes if thats what you want to call them.
REVS: about $6000 suggested for rebuild
MILDRENS: $1100 in labour plus parts
IMPORTER: $3100 for an import motor
or you can look interstate.

Hey jase, My engine was rebuilt about 3 or 4 thousand km ago, still have all the receipts. If you want to have a look at them or you want me to give you prices on specific things pm me and i'll have a look. My total was just shy of 12,000 but stuff was done you wouldn't require like turbo's rebuilt etc. At least you can see if there's a big difference in your quote to what mine cost.

if its as easy as what ive been reading, might do it myself
do u need "special" tools to do bridgeport n shizzle, or can u just send the housings in to mildrens or something and get them to do it?? unsure of what actually needs to be done for that, so correct me if im wrong with the housings

Thats kool mate, i've sorted something out with Jase from REVS to get me back on the track for a while. I have purchased an Apexi ECU & boost controller as well as some fuel equipment to help stop it from happening again(fingers crossed) and then if/when that motor blows i will be taking a break to get more money for a full rebuild.

Its just like building a piston, but trickier and more meticulous. and there's less tolerance to getting it wrong. a small mistake could cost thousands in new parts.
That being said I'm definately going to have a go at building one myself oneday. But definately going to do a piston motor first.

im doing a piston rebuild myself at the moment for a school project, pretty simple i must say, once u hav learned all the parts
once thats done think im gonna take the 13b out and start to rebuild, is doing the porting the hard part, theres a few rooted engines going round so i might buy one of those and then practise on it
Get the motor built professionally, it will cost you less in the long run.
Unless you like sitting on the side of the road.

Porting is done to the plates, not the housings, and i'd be inclined to get a builder to do it as there's water jackets and oil galleries to watch out for. A full cut bridgeport, done properly will cost about $1000. They heat the plates, cast weld the ports, then let it all cool together slowly. Once it's cool, they cut completely new ports. Each builder has his own cut/shape/depth and his own reasons for doing it that way. Re-building a motor is something I'd like to try, but I'd get a running motor, pull it apart and put it back together and see if it runs first. Once you can do that, you'll know the process, then your ready to rectify damage along the way. A mate did it. Took him 6 times to get the engine to spin freely by hand before he put a starter on it. If it won't turn by hand, a starter motor will destroy it.

Porting is done to the plates, not the housings, .
Think you forgot exhaust ports.
There's more power to be made in the exhaust than any dodgy backyard BP.
