Hi All,
I called Australian Motors (Edwardstown) today and asked them to see if my car has any outstanding Factory Recalls, and they have found ONE on my car according to Mazda Australia's record, which is the "Hard to start" recall.
The recall involves changing two of the spark plugs to a brand new one and reprogramming of the ECU. All of you probably know that a set of Mazda OEM spark plugs cost in excess of $300+ per set. So I am getting this done for free, and remember that it doesn't matter you are out of warranty or not, factory recall = free of charge regardless of warranty.
So far, only one factory recall has been carried out on my 8, which is the "Safety Recall", sticker is on the driver front door sill, if you don't see two stickers, better ring now :) You can ring any Mazda dealer, they have the same database, make sure you have your VIN number or rego ready. I have already booked in mine on next Wednesday.

I currently have a really hard to start issue with mine as I don't drive it much. once a week is about all and some times I find the battery is dead. Owned it for over two years and haven't even driven 10000 kms yet.
Had a feeling that this was due to the hard to start recall not being done.
I dont think it has had any of the recalls done. I was going to ask about this when I finally service it.

I had the hard start problem before at about 30000kms, followed by an excessive stench of petrol (more than usual) especially on cold starts. Just a flat battery and sparks were changed, had no idea that it could be a missed recall. Paradise motors didnt seem to mind making us pay.

You have to call and check for outstanding recall, my car has so far 26000km on the clock, but has not experienced any problems at all, but still worthwhile to get it done.
I called both Australian Motors and Paradise Motor, they both said the same thing, no charge. Then realised Australian Motors is actually much closer to where I work, so I go there instead.

Ok... just had the factory recall done yesterday at 26000km, replaced two trailing plugs, reprogrammed PCM and cleaned throttle body. The result is very obvious, fuel ratio seems to be less rich than before as I used to have exhaust popping every 2-3 seconds that sends vibration throughout the car, no pops now! runs very smooth and throttle is a little more responsive, should expect to see better fuel economy.
Picture shown is one of the replaced trailing plug.

Those are Mazda OEM Iridium plugs by NGK, designed specifically for the Renesis if that's what you're asking.

Interesting. They're a lot like the top dollar Greddy's I have for the FD (but havent used yet) - which are made by NGK. I guess they're probably the same :)

I have no idea about the Greddy's, but I have just bought a new set of plugs, but I haven't received them yet, may be we can compare the difference between them after I got them? How much you paid for them? I won the bid from ebay for about $149 shippied.

I've got these: http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm/TRUST-GReddy-Racing-Spark-Plug-PRO-Rotary-13B-13926
They say they don't suit the MSP but just looking at the plug pictured I'm not sure there is any difference :)

note the difference between the leading and trailling tip, but rotary plugs probably all look the same, may be it's the heat rating that is difference.
Cheers
