Flex: No problem mate, having a small shorter cruise means we can do it more often, rather than a massive one that only happens once or twice a year or if any at all, small cruise is much easier to organise. When you are good and ready just yell out here, I'm pretty sure you will get some sort of responses.

Zoomz: Don't get too pumped up just yet :) you may ended up having no where to relieve your excitement :D We are at the mercy of the weather, and it won't happen if we have less than 5 cars, 8 cars would be a good number, not too small not too big.

If it doesn't happen this week, then we postpone one week, fail again then week after, until it finally happens. How's that sounds? This way we have somthing to look forward to each week, until the weather and car number conditions are met.

I should be upfront about a few... well, *cough, cough* rules for those who concern and should apply to any future cruises, if anyone can think of anymore please add to the following:
(1) No hoon behaviors
(2) No traffic offences (burn outs etc)
(3) Must know your own limit, no dangerous maneuver (eg drifting, power sliding)
(4) No loud doof doof
(5) No road rage
(6) Use commonsense
(7) No alcohol consumption before and during cruise, this is a harsh one I know but...

Generally, it is all about meeting people and their cars, sharing the passions and enjoy the driving.

Next thing is we need to plan a few routes and stops, any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

K

Honestly I've found the best routes by going up to the hills and then just driving roads I've never been before. Just try to get yourself lost, it won't happen though every road connects to somewhere.

The best route I have ever known would be starting at Tea Tree Gully, heading up to Lobethal via Chain of Ponds and Cuddle Creek road. Proceed through Lobethal and at the end of street turn right and follow this road all the way through Basket Range and Forest Range until you get to Mt Lofty. From Mt Lofty head to Stirling and then turn down Sturt Valley Road and follow this all the way to the back of Blackwood. Get to the main road of Blackwood and then head down Shepherds Hill Road to South Road. End Cruise.

It will easily take a few hours and you'll all be knackered afterwards but what a route and selection of good roads

Thanks for the input, sounds like really great route you have there, I think I will try to map it onto google map or somthing later on, and post the link here (see if I can make it work), that way we all can see exactly where we all going, to be honest it's more for myself, I am the most hopeless person when comes to sense of direction, I was lost in Adelaide CBD a few times... :P Can't imagine getting lost in the area you mentioned.

im down for a cruise, my panel beaters ill so work hasn't startred yet. ive got no interior but we'll agree that just gives it the race spec look. can some one please pm me if the cruise goes ahead in case i cant find this link again

Hey no problem mate, please make sure you have set up your User CP, so that when you have a new private message an email will get sent to you instantly. OR check back here on Saturday evening, I'll make a post at around 6pm telling whether the cruise has a green or red light.

I will also try to post some more info on the route by Friday night and meet point.

So far the weather condition has be met, except the car number, at the moment only Zoomz, you and I can make it this week, be good to have 3 more members then it will be a go ahead.

If this week cruise falls through, then it will be postponed till next week, until weather is good and car number is at least 5 or more.

BTW, if you already know a good route, please tell us, as I would be the worst person doing the lead, may ended up in the dead end or outback...

Just add your name to the list if you are up for the cruise:
Date: Sunday, 5th July 2009
Time: 1pm
Duration: Dunno, may be 3+ hours?
Meet point: To be discussed
Route:to be posted, please add your suggestion if you know any good one, otherwise I just have to go with what RotaS4 suggested above or similar.

Ok, this is the route that RotaS4 suggested, I have plotted on Google Maps, please take a look guys:

Click "refresh" button on your web browser if the blue track line doesn't show up.

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=tea+tree+gully&daddr=lobethal+to:Mt+Lofty+SA+to:stirling+SA+to:Bl ackwood+SA+to:Flinders+Drv,+Bedford+Park+SA+5042+( Flinders+Medical+Centre)&hl=en&geocode=%3B%3BFX0s6v0d54VECA%3B%3BFZ2e6f0dtB9DCA%3 BCdvh0Ow5nAG6FbCZ6f0dPmBCCCG_c2mWzI-rOA&mra=pe&mrcr=4&sll=-34.918593,138.746338&sspn=0.350202,0.501251&ie=UTF8&z=11

Pit stops in (B) Lobethal and (C) Stirling, goodbye point at (F) Flinders Uni somewhere.

When I look at it, I find that it is a bit long for a small group cruise, 71.9km total distance (excluding travel to meet point and back home) and nearly 2 hours of constant driving concentration is a bit hardcore, like RotaS4 said, you will be knackered at the end. May be we will reserve this for a slightly bigger group cruise.

Can someone please suggest or modify the route and post the link back here? Perferably around 40-50km max distance, with about 2 "pit-stop" somewhere in between for some rest, photo, chat, drink, toilet etc?

Cheers,

K

You've skipped the best part of the cruise!! Here this is where you need to go.

Thanks, I will see if I can plot it on Google Map again, you might be using an outdated web browser or something.

Not sure about you, but I think 2 hours of constant spirited driving is very exhausting! I would normally change gears every 2 to 5 seconds depends on the road, between 1-2-3 gears, doing that for 2 hours straight... not sure I have enough juice for that mate. But the 2 hours is for driving alone, there will be 2 to 3 "pit stops" to have a break, so overall may be around 4+ hours.

Yep, I'm skeptical about this weekend that it will happen, as a few cars are still off the road etc, if this doesn't happen this week, then I will look forward to next weekend.

In the meantime I will try to consolidate all routes suggested by everyone here and compile a Cruise Menu, so whenever we need a cruise next time, in a hurry, we can just pick one out of the menu.

How does that sound?

It will give your brakes, tyres, gearbox and physical endurance a nice workout. Most of the old members on here know it though.

one thing you will realise when organising a cruise is that no matter how many people reply in a thread that they are gong to go/not go, you will always have people that decide on the day that they want to go/not go.
I know that i myself am a very spontanious (sp) person and do things on the spot, which i know a few people dont like, but im sure there are also a lot of other people like that too.
At the end of the day, even if you only have 2, 4 or 10 cars, a cruise is a cruise, i would still go out if no one else did.

Yeah im that way too, never know what im up to on the day until i actually leave the door... Plus other things come up as well... Me an my mates often cruise in a group of 4-5 cars so round that or higher is always fun...

I know what you are saying, I'm actually like that myself, but since I don't know anyone of the members here personally, this may be the only proper way of doing it, put names down on a list, at least those who on the list will have higher possibility of turning up.

Only if I know any of you better, I would just pick up the phone and ask whether you want to go for a drive in the next hour on a very late saturday night, and stuff all these planning craps.

It really doesn't matter whether this week happens or not, there's always next week, like I said in the beginning, if this week is no go, then we'll look forward to next week, and then next again... until all conditions are met, ie good weather and enough car count.

Looks like it will not happen this week anyway :S

Nah... no need to push it, some people's car here are either still off the road or in multiple pieces, perhaps 1 or 2 weeks after is better for everyone? See how we go :) need to have good weather as well.

K
Nah your right dude. Your gotta be persistant if you want people to show. All i think we mean is, dont be surprised if people dont show, thats all.

After a few cruises an we know each other better, then it will only be a phone call away.

I look forward to catchin' up with ya an havin' a good rotang filled chat... Keep ip the good work.

Hi, thank you for your interest, despite we in need of more participants, but according to what you said above, you don't have much experience in a manual car and you're going to drive one to the cruise. The route we are taking is very hazardous, and required 200% concentration over the period of 1 hour, you have me worried and sorry I can not accept your entry, unless you can get someone with much more experience to drive the car for you.

Hope you can understand.

OK guys, the cruise is no go this week, due to not enough cars, I was gonna wait till 2moro 6pm in case of late comers, but a friend just came over from Tassie today, so I will be spending the day with him on Sat, no time for internet, so might as well make the annoucement now.

Now, for those who still keen on having a cruise, please post your prefered dates here. Then we start from there.

Have a good weekend!

lol is this cruise a joke i don’t mean to be rude but if sedgu wants to come out he can, how dose it effect you i think he knows what his limits are, he can go as fast as he wants or as slow as he wants, or did you think he mite have just wonted to come to the meet point to get to no some people you don’t go knocking people back like that mate he was just trying to show his interest.

I myself thought that was a little harsh.

Plus by the time this cruise goes ahead he'll probably be capable of driving an F1 car. Just jokes....

No place like a decent cruise to learn your car an how to drive it good and safely.

i was going to write something up earlier but though i would let it slide.
The whole idea of going to/on cruises is to get out, meet people and drive your cars.
The young fella said he has driven manual 3 or 4 times.... so what, he is learning and its a free country and free roads.
I dont mean to be rude but if all cruises relied on people pm'ing or calling before hand, there would never be cruises.
Not everyone is on thier computers everyday, some barely even once a week.
I understand that you have said earlier that you dont know anyone off here but thats the whole point of having a meet point, you meet people there, if 5 people turn up, awesome, if 2 people turn up, then its not as many as you wanted but you can still go out for a cruise.
Just ask some people around here, there was a first gen cruise organised and only 3 cars turned up, they still went out on a cruise and they also enjoyed themselves.

end rant.

OK, my apology if I was sounded harsh to sedgu, but please believe me, I didn't mean that.

Driving skill has never been part of the condition of joining a cruise, ever, and I have never questioned anyone about this either. Sedgu perhaps was being polite, saying he's a "hopeless noob", I don't know him at all, so I don't know his definition of "hopeless", but his words worried me about his safety (may be I was imagining L-plater), however I did mention to sedgu to get a more experienced driver to come along with him, I should have worded this more carefully and I think I worry too much of others.

Sedgu:
Please don't mind what I said earlier if it sounded harsh, I'm more than happy to meet all of you here, otherwise I won't have tried to get a cruise going despite I'm new here myself. Like I said before, it's all about the person first, then cars later, as long as you can drive, that's all it needs, and you're more than welcome to the cruise, when it happens next, sorry pal.

Ok guys, it's my very first time to organise a cruise, after receiving a few ideas from here, the verdict is, a cruise is a cruise, regardless of number, so I'm proposing the next possible dates are either Sat 18th July or Sun 19th July, anyone who's interested please suggest a date and time, then we'll just make it happen no matter how many cars. Hope some of you will have your rota back on the road by then, if not please consider any cars ;)

Dont get me worng, i didnt write what i did to have a go at you or anything like that, and if thats how it came across, i am truely sorry.
I guess what i was trying to get across is that even he is a L plater or very new to his P's, im sure he knows his limits when driving his car.
Trust me, a lot of peoples driving scares me and these are people that have been driving for years :o
However my car is off the road until i can get the motor done :( so i may not be out for a while, unless i can get Scott to register the Rx3 or my cousin to come out in his xr6 turbo.

In that case you may want to just meet at the main meet point, it's no point having you to come all the way back to the south then back to the north again if you're already midway there.

So I'll see you at the main meet point then.

I counted about 7 rotas including myself. Bangers including my brother's S2000, friend's S15 and a Godzilla. Some said might pop by meet point to say hello, and may or may not join the cruise, and those that comes may bring mates. So I'll say at least 5 cars to as many as 10+ cars?

Yeah the weekday run was good, late morning start so the roads were pretty empty. Was extremely wet out but the all weather tyres, once warmed up, were still grippy as anything, until the rear tyre got punctured. yeah, unfortunately i think the biggest let down was all the people who said they were going to show but didn't. there was more than enough warning that this cruise was taking place and if it wasn't for kusanagis mates it would of been an embarrassing show of rotors in adelaide. All i have to say is less banging on the keyboard and more driving. on a high note, you all missed out on the most insane black bridgeport turbo rx7 ive ever seen!!! wheelspin in third gear at any speed dude your car was insane.

Things change from day to day,
some people who had wanted to go may have had something come up at the last minute, it happens all the time, doesnt mean it is a embarrassing show of rotors, and some people just plain simply forget, these things do happen.

Hey no problem, it was my attempt to kick start some spirits as a reminder of driving is still the most fun to be had, and that's a good spirit you have there, keep that going! :D

I'm hoping that someone will lead and organise the next cruise, the reason being is that I don't know any roads well, during the first part of the route, I have to confess that although I was doing the lead, I was merely following the GPS!! From Lobethal onward munky_matt was leading, munky_matt knows the road like the back of his hand.

Why would you think that? You will never know the person sitting behind the screen despite you have exchanged thousands of email etc until you come out and meet them in person! Hello all,

My name is Michael and i own a s3 rx7 which i mainly use around mallala at the MSCA super sprints , I have read in a previous post that a track day at mallala was mentioned.

I believe a few of the members have competed in the modern regularity in the past so some of you have track experience, there are a few more MSCA sprints left for the year with the next one being 16th Aug. There are no time restrictions so you do not have to nominate a time and stick to it instead you are competing against the clock and try to beat your time so you can push the car to the limits which over time you will find.

Perhaps a few of the sa rotor members would like to try the super sprints but the catch is you need to be a member of one of the clubs nominated to compete.

The MSCA are doing a fathers day special where for a fee you get to try sprinting ( come and try day ) Details on the MSCA web site.

There are normaly 3-4 rotars including myself competing at each event so a few more would be better.

I am a member of the Nissan datsun car club and the other owners of rotor power vehicles are member of other clubs affiliated with the MSCA.

If anyone is interested let me know and i can point you in the right direction.

Michael...

Lol! if one day there's 0 car turn up, we all know where to hunt you down, in the bushes that is... :D

I hope someone will take the lead and organise the next one though, as my knowledge around the hilly roads is bad, plus my free time is getting more and more uncertain each day, I can't imagine the organiser not turning up in the last minute haha.

Hey guys,

Sounds like the meet was a good one. Been reading that some people werent able to make it to the one last weekend.

Dont want to post hijack but just wanted to remind all members are welcome to come to my Open Day for Glowridaz.com.au on Sunday August 2nd, several people from this forum are already coming and it would be another opportunity for people to meet in person.

Ill get Brad (Adjust) to bring down his FD even though its a little knocked up and then we can have on display another high horsepower rotor. Ill have my FD down there but its pretty stocko under bonnet.

If you havent already seen the post of the Open day is on this forum, go to: http://www.sarotors.org/forum/showthread.php?t=194

If you are available and want to have a great day out that inckudes FREE GRUB & DRINKS, :popcorn3: then just let me know.

Cheers,

hey jesse, its simon, i was behind you in the rx2. that s5 of yours is rediculous man. i also cant beleive how it come on boost outta corners, i thought it would be a bit sluggish but nope. and you werent wrong about how loud it gets when the gate cracks open. extremely impressive ride you've got there.

hey mate, reckon you have me confused with ben. I wasnt at the first meet, i got to lobethal late. my FC looks very similar to his.. except has about 57kw less lol. mine is the one on the right.http://www.sarotors.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=25&pictureid=258

Hi Jason, yeah usually I'm keen on all cruises, but I have too many commitments at this time of the year, and you're right, otherwise I would have been on the last one.

Actually, my car has not started for nearly a month (been idle since b'day cruise!!), other than battery issue, will it cause any mechanical problems? such as sticky rotor seals, flat spot on tyres? I might just go for a quick drive 2moro.

alright well here's a couple of ideas

meet up mitcham reserve carpark about 12.00 sunday.
drive down blythwood road, left up belair road up windy point.
drive through belair via upper sturt past belair nation park
right down hawthorndene dr
right up main rd towards blackwood
down shepards hill road, continue down sturt road.
end up at flinders uni and pull the nitro cars out in one of the hundred car parks there.
then another drive after or go home from uni.

another option is a drive anywhere using any carpark (bigw cross road, burnside shop ctr, etsa park etc) as long as we're gone by 11am when the shoppers start rocking up.

the reason i say sunday, is a fair few cant make it saturday but most can make it sunday. also possible showers early saturday (doesn't help the nitro cars running in the rain)

up to you guys though, post if its doable or not then we can transfer set details to a new thread to avoid confusion.

I will have to check and confirm later, if it's this Sunday you're talking about Simon.

As for the nitro car, I have an idea Simon, there is a place called Hobby Habit at Daws Road, Melrose Park, they have indoor (massive warehouse, so don't worry about rain) RC bitumen and dirt track, last time I checked the tracks are huge and awesome, and you can get up on the control stand and overlook the entire track, and you have your own service bench (depends on how busy they are) they open from 10am till 4pm Sunday, it costs $10 to use their facility, no time limit so you can play till they're shut.

http://www.hobbyhabit.com.au/view/page/6.html

I've seen a few pro playing there, and it was awwwesome!

I work around the area, if you want I can go pass there after work and take photos of their tracks if you want.

Ket

capella re
17-03-2010, 12:16 PM
yeah was this sunday i was talking about.
i know the hobby habit your talking about i was suggested this by a mate of mine as we do go there sometimes. only problem is lack of parking out the front the only other parking available is down the side street out of view and it is semi industrial down there (scumville)
only reason i didnt suggest it was for those that cant stand remote control cars or dont have one themselves can look at the rotors while the remote cars are going around the carpark of choice whereas at hobby habbit your indoors nowhere near our cars.

we'll just wait for feedback from the majority and see what they think, i'm fine either way.
and for those that dont know hobby habit has dirt and road tracks (buggies and drifters)

Kusanagi
17-03-2010, 12:31 PM
this is one of the indoor bitumen track at hobby habit, the dirt track is on the other side not in photo.

There is a decent size carpark out the back...and you can see all of car park from both R/C tracks...dont think they would mind a few rota's rocking up...
Sold my nitro rc...but if anyone is up for a race with the slot cars i think there is 3 or 4 tracks...

OwnageFd
17-03-2010, 06:45 PM

Its actually a Touge Alliance / Adelaide garage cruise (Adelaide garage's final cruise before shutting down).

SA Rotors & Club PSI are the only other clubs that have been invited as both clubs are involved in Touge Alliance events (quite a few ppl from here come out on our friday drives etc).

Anyone is welcome, we all love rotors and our goal for the day is to get to know more people with the same interests.
