G'day all,
My name's Jared, i'm a 2nd year apprentice painter.
My ride at the moment is a s3 with a s4/5 13bt. It's running a blue nikki and has a full exhaust, which has twin primary's 2" in diameter thru to the diff then converts to a single 2 and a 1/2" then dumps out a rotaflow. It is also fitted with a front strut brace and gilmer drive. For extra cooling it has a single large fan, controlled by a thermal swith and temp sensor(get 'em thru motor traders). This allows me to set the thermal switch to a certain temp which at that point it fires up the fan and turns it off after the temp drops 10-15c. Very handy, cheers izzy!!
Only things i've done to it mechanicly apart from a major services, is get the middle section of the exhaust re-done with new ressys and i also blew up a standard s3 box and replaced that with a 12aT item.
Next i wana tidy up all the suspension and steering bushes etc. All are in average condish an need abit of TLC. And i wana put a manual s3 diff centre in(has 12a auto ATM).
But being only a 2nd year apprentice and running a house 'zaps' all my money, so it's hard having the money to get stuff done.
Hope i didnt bore you.

I've also painted the mirrors and wipers in an acrylic satin black. I would have done the trim around the windscreen but i couldnt get it off and i didnt want to break the clips...

Welcome Jared
If I am not mistaken you bought your 7 from a guy named Nathan around the Modbury area??
nice car, good idea about the diff. auto diff ratio is 3.6 compared to the manual which has 3.9, which is HEAPS better for an NA rotor. Better yet try find a 4.11-4.8 diff centre (then id lock it, but thats personal preference) out of a mazda van

RotaS4- Hey mate, i did reply to your comment on my pic but i dont think it will notify you, but nah i got it up round aberfoyle pk way and the blokes name wasnt nathan, i can't remember now ay..
Flex- Really? I thought the autos where 3.9 and the manuals where 4.1???? What model mazda vans have the 26-spline 4.11 centre in 'em?? Isn't there a thread on ausrotary about this???
Yeah lockers are sick but i wouldnt do it until i've re-done all the suspension bushes etc. I had a s1 that i bought with a locker and the suspension was totally fucked so the car was actually dangerous... But after then a reckon a lockers on the cards, can anyone say "on a dime"....
Love your first gen too, she looks hot!!

O.K from what i can gather off ausrotary.com, they said that all first gens came with 3.9's?? That sound right??
Yes.
3.9:1
Mazda wasn't very keen on changing diff ratios between autos and Manuals (unlike Datsun and Toyota).
Does anyone know if a mazda E1600(4.1) diff centre will bolt straight up to my s3 diff?? I read the info but im a dumb carnt when it comes to diffs...

I dont think the blokes name was Aaron(could be wrong).... I've got a very fucked and selected memory... His username on ausrotary is "rotary 1200 coupe". lived on sunnymeade Drive.
One other thing, he said the engine was rebuilt 9000km's ago when i got it, which the compression test suggested otherwise.... Still good comp but def hadn't been rebuilt. Plus he said it had a 12aT box in it, which it didnt.. So i doubt it was true about the engine...
Do you know much about this "rxgirl"?? Would be good to know if it had been or not...
I love the car ay, prob more than my 12at s1. I still start it every 2nd weekend(highlight of my fortnight...) Can't wait to get behind the wheel again. Yeah you would have seen me around the Port for sure... Use to live at North Haven.

ok, when Aaron owned the car we did the conversion from the auto to the manual.
Im sure the gear box that was used at this time was a S3 12a box.
From there im not sure what happened to it.
The guy that bought it from Aaron may have done more stuff to it that we dont know of, as i know when he had it, it didnt have the wheels on it, went with standard S3 wheels on.Was a good car tho.

No shit. The dude i got it off said he did the engine... lol. I'm pretty well sure he was just looking for extra $$ by saying it was rebuilt and running a turbo box.
Lesson learnt. Reciepts!!
Cheers for the info.
So did your mate that had it before the dude i got it from ever have a turbo set-up bolted on it or did he always run the carby??
Also do you know what the go is with the auto to manual diff ratio's?? Are they the same? If not what are the ratios...?

When Aaron has it, it was a stock standard 12a carby fed, hadnt been turboed before he had it and he sold it still with the carby.
Not too sure of the diff ratios tho

So the bloke i got it from did put the 13b de-comp in.... Well there ya go... hahaha
I only asked if he'd had a turbo on it at one stage because i didnt know if your mate put the engine in or the dude i got it from.
All i can say is, it's had abit of love in its life cause it's in pretty good nick in comparison to my other first gens.
Thanks for the info dude

Thanks man, yeah there a nice touch.. They need to be repositioned tho, they sit to high at the front which can make 'em a wee bit uncomfortable after a long thrash..
