i like my rotors, id like to put a rotor in everything i own including my electric toothbrush but alas i dont have an unlimited bank card. so when someone takes an excellent example of one of our finest (the fd) and stuffs a 6 cylinder into it, i just don't get it???
AND A FARKIN RB26 OF ALL THINGS!!! does put out 990ps but so would a 20b i reckon. oh well each and everyone to their own i guess

even though im not a fan of a piston conversion i sure wouldn't turn down a ride in any 1000hp car!!!

Why blasphemous?
Best possible mod for an FD, IMO..
If not for cop/rego hassles, I would have done mine when we refreshed the motor..
And if I decide to turn it into a track car, that will be the first change I make..

seriously?? why?? ive never gotten the put a gen 3, 2jz rb motor in an fd. i know nic said he'd put a gen 3 in his cossi if it ever went bang but thats a different story. im just against taking rotaries out of anything. i dont see a problem with the 13brew being in there in the first place otherwise id assume it would be a more regular thing (i do realise its nothing new and has been done many times before, but not to the level of it being a given)
what reasons would you put down for an rb26 in an fd? reliability? drivability? outright power? and don't say all of the above or you'll hurt my feelings. ive had an r33 before and looking into cost versus power a rotary came out on top easy. reliability, ive not had a rotor blow up yet but in the right conditions they certainly have the rep to deliver tears in spades.
im not taking the piss, would like to know your opinion as to why. ive had heaps of cars rb30 turbs, rb25 turbs, 5.4l v8 (dont ask) 3tgteu, 5k, 7mgte, e15et, and ive liked the rotaries ive had by miles, couldn't think of my fd with anything else in it.

Well, we have one of the nicest-looking (affordable) cars around.
They handle amazingly, stop better than almost anything, don't rust, and the chassis can take huge power with a few simple mods..
The weak link is the rotary!
In N/A form they are as reliable as most any piston motor, but as soon as you force-feed them they become temperamental, unreliable and expensive to maintain.
In standard form the FD is quite reliable, apart from the atrocious twin turbo setup and associated rats nest. And hardly anyone (myself included) is smart enough to leave them standard anyway.
I wouldn't even consider putting an RB26 or similar in, but a low-cost, super-reliable, torquey and easily modded Chev V8 is another story.
Consider it.. You can get the same power from a very lightly modded LSx as a turboed, modded 13B.. and you have torque from idle, you can beat on it day in and day out, years and years between rebuilds.. and it is LIGHTER, and doesn't affect the balance of the car at all (unlike a LOOOOONG 6-cylinder)..
For a track car, it's a complete and utter no-brainer IMO..
And as for a street car??
The days of modified street cars is fast drawing to a close.
Enjoy it while you can.

PS .. apologies, I hadn't noticed that was an RB26 swap you posted, I assumed it was a V8..

ive said it many times before too, nice to see others realise it too.
understand your point about the gen 3 but i like my rotors a bit too much. its like bondage, i must enjoy the pain of an engine that always needs just one more tweak to run right (in an infinate loop) that lumps its ass off, gets me pulled over when i go anywhere near town and has my neighbours giving me the finger, but i wouldn't change that for quids :)
have you ever been in a gen 3 fd? is there any in adelaide? i know george and theo had alot of success with the gen 3 conversion in their r34.
i have plans for modding hybrid cars in the works im currently developing a way to trick up electric cars harnessing the power from lightening that will allow me to time travel when i get above 88mph
its how all performance cars end up, on the back of a tow truck

and it is a shame about the complex twin setup on fd's but geez theyre phenominal when they run right. my engine and turbos have been rebuit, new lines and solenoids and when it decides to activate the way it should, the response is amazing (so amazing its been off the road with a trashed clutch) only one way to go from here though as the setup gets older. but with 260rwkw in an fd, your the last person that should be looking at a new engine setup :)

Well, look on the bright side Simon, if you keep your FD, we can already run them on Hydrogen fuel, so we'll have the best looking hybrid style vehicle on the road (The Prius still looks like poo and who can honestly afford the Tesla Roadster besides the CEO of Internode:rolleyes:). Only modification needed is the fuel lines, fuel pump and fuel tank / fuel cell.

Not the first time a De Lorian has been powered by a Chevvy to 88mph
(Original first series had a 350ci in them before the US Fuel crisis when they switched production over to a Volvo 4 cyl, the two they used in the movie was 1 Half cut for the cockpit shots and the drivable one was a Volvo 4)
Well, in my opinion, the whole reason I purchased my FD was because they're unique. The body shape, the drivability, and especially the rotary donk. No other manufacturer proceeded to mass produce a rotory motor in their cars (and continue to do so into the new millenium) besides Mazda. The Twin Turbo setup may be a nightmare when it wears, but when it's running just the way Mazda manufatured it, it's solid gold under the right foot!
I've driven cars ranging from the stupid (KE70 Carolla with a 253ci Holden V8) to the latest (MY03 - MY05 STI Impreza, '98 RZ Twin Turbo Supra and an R34 GTT) and for the life of me, I fell in love with the FD on my first drive.
If you want it to look like an FD and go like a Skyline then good luck to who ever you are.
